100 Words, 100 Days: Day 55. On Consubstantiality and The Apostles Creed.

The Catholic Church in its infinite wisdom has made some revisions to that classic staple of the Mass: The Apostles Creed. In a move seen as inclusive and all-encompassing, as well as making Catholicism a relevant force in organised religion once more, the phrase  “begotten, not made, of one being with the Father” has been changed to “begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father”.

I don’t know about you, but ‘consubstantial’ doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue quite as well as the previous choice of words. My thinking is the next time the Vatican wants to change things, leave the altar wine alone.
